ESOL Classes

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Classes are available for non-native English speakers. All classes take place at Blue Ridge Literacy in Downtown Roanoke. We offer three levels of English classes (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), as well as specialized classes throughout the year. Learners are placed in a program based on their preferences, schedule, and literacy level. Call 540-265-9339 to schedule a registration appointment. In-person classes (at BRL office):  Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Remote classes (online):  Tuesday and Thursday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

English ESOL classes are offered year-round, twice per week for ten weeks. 

​

Classes are Tues/Thurs,

10:00-12:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm

We have several levels of class, including Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

All learners are pre-tested before being placed into class.

How much does it cost?

There is a one-time $25 registration fee. A re-enrollment fee after the first session of ESOL classes is $10 per session.

What level of English class will I attend?

All BRL learners take a reading test after enrolling at BRL. Based on this score, you will be placed in the appropriate level of class.

Do you have class on the weekends?

We do not have classes on the weekends. If you are only able to study on the weekends, please see information about our tutoring program

Where are English classes?

Classes take place in the BRL offices located in the Main Library in Downtown Roanoke.

What will I learn in classes or tutoring?

BRL offers comprehensive English language instruction that focuses on reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

Where is BRL located?

All BRL learners take a reading test before enrolling at BRL. Based on this score, you will be placed in the appropriate level of class.

What time is class?

Class times vary. Our ESOL classes are 10:00-12:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

How quickly will I learn at BRL?

BRL learners typically improve their reading skills by one literacy level after 40 hours of instruction.
